Foster Family Corn Maze In South Windsor Is Perfect Fall Fun

Nothing says fall like corn mazes - except maybe for pumpkins, hay rides and cool days on the farm - all of which can be found at the Foster Family Farm, opening this weekend in South Windsor.

Each year the maze has a different theme and this year's is the farm. A cow, duck and barn are carved out in the corn maze.

A second large maze is Halloween themed, with a vampire, castle and a bat flying over a cloud-covered moon. 

A third, shorter maze is tailored to children who might not enjoy the 30-45 minutes the longer mazes' two miles of trail will take.

Beyond the maze, there are go-carts, a train and other activities for kids, not to mention pick-your-own pumpkins later in the season. A vendor sells hot dogs, ice cream and the like adjacent to the maze.

There's even a small private room carved out of the corn stalks that can be used for birthday parties.

This year the farm has added a new way to go through the maze - a kind of animal Clue. In the game, the farmer is missing and by eliminating the animals, participants determine who took him.

The farm has been in the family about 200 years, Dwight Foster said as he put the finishing touches on the corn maze Thursday. But the family has only been doing the corn maze for about 10 years. Before that it was a dairy farm.

The farm is open Saturdays and Sundays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Flashlight maze runs Fridays and Saturdays until 9:30 p.m.
