When it comes to Powerball ticket sales, today is just an ordinary day at the Xtra Mart convenience store on Oakland Street.
Manager Cherise Shipman said customers have not been clamoring to purchase a chance to win the $360 million jackpot, at least any more than normal.
"It's a pretty normal day," she said in between customers primarily purchasing a drink, snack or pack of cigarettes.
For the store to have a real rush on Powerball tickets the prize has to be worth even more, Shipman said. Just what is the magic amount? Shipman wasn't certain, but knew it was more.
According to the state lottery, the overall odds of winning a Powerball prize are 1 in 31.8 based on a $2.00 play. Odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 175,223,510 million.
Despite this, I still took a chance and bought five quick picks for $10. (Fingers crossed!)
