Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued For Hartford County

​The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Hartford, Tolland and Windham county.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Hartford County until 2:15 p.m.

At 1:20 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Ellington, or near Vernon, moving south at 20 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and half dollar size hail.

IMPACT...Expect wind damage to trees and power lines. Minor hail damage to vehicles is possible.

The National Weather Service in Boston/Norton has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for portions of Hartford and Tolland county until 1 p.m.

At 12:04 p.m. a severe thunderstorm was located over Northampton, moving south at 15 mph.

HAZARD...Ping pong ball size hail and 60 mph wind gusts.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect wind damage to trees and power lines. Minor hail
damage to vehicles is possible.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

"For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building," the weather service said. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.


NORTHERN CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Hartford, Tolland and Windham county for the chance of strong-to-severe storms today.

The weather service said, "Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are possible across southern New England today. The main threats with storms are damaging wind gusts, hail, frequent lightning and heavy rainfall. The heavy rainfall may lead to localized flash flooding."


Here is the expected timeline:

Today: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8pm, then a slight chance of showers between 8pm and 9pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. Northeast wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

  • ALMOND TREE DOWN AT BIGELOW BROOK FARM ROAD AND TREE DOWN ACROSS FIRE TOWER ROAD NEAR THE SECTION THAT BECOMES CHASE HILL ROAD also in Eastford.
