Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued For Northern Connecticut

The National Weather Service cautions that strong-to-severe thunderstorms are possible for Hartford and Tolland County Tuesday.

NORTHERN CONNECTICUT — In a 4:30 p.m. update the National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the entire state of Connecticut up until 10 p.m.


NORTHERN CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties, warning of the chance of strong-to-severe thunderstorms Tuesday.

"A few strong to severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon," the weather service said. "Damaging wind gusts are the primary threat but large hail is also possible. The greatest risk for severe weather may end up south of the Mass Pike and especially across eastern Connecticut, Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts."

It will be another hot day, with temperatures near 90 degrees and the heat index will make it feel even hotter. The best chance for storms appear to be after noon Tuesday.

Today: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Mostly sunny, with a high near 89. Light and variable wind becoming west 9 to 14 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 60. Northwest wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 75. Northwest wind 9 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 58. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 83. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 8 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
