MANCHESTER, CT — The latest journey to a Hidden Gem in Hartford and Tolland counties takes us to a place tucked into the beginning of Main Street in Manchester that has been a go-to location for all things outdoors for more than a half-century.

And it goes with a popular saying, "Farr's has to have it."

Welcome to Farr's in Manchester. It's roots go back to 1955, when Jim Farr opened Manchester Surplus, a general merchandise store store squeezed in between a TV repair shop and package store.

In 1971, amid a renewal project to spruce up the north part of town, Farr expanded his business and opened Farr's Sporting Goods.

The family business has now embedded itself as part of the community and offers a wide variety of products and services like:
