Jersey Mike's Sets Grand Opening Date For Manchester Restaurant

Jersey Mike's Subs​ has scheduled its grand opening in Manchester with a charitable twist.

MANCHESTER, CT — Jersey Mike’s Subs has scheduled its grand opening in Manchester for Dec. 12.

The new restaurant is located at 1500A Pleasant Valley Road.

Franchise owner Ken Schanke will offer a grand opening and free sub fundraiser from Wednesday, Dec. 12 to Sunday, Dec. 16 in an effort to support Manchester High School arts, athletics, and the culinary departments. He is circulating 10,000 coupons throughout the community that offer a free regular sub for a minimum $2 contribution to the MHS programs. Customers must have a coupon to be eligible.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on December 12 at 9:45 a.m. Special guests will work with the Jersey Mike’s team to slice, sprinkle and wrap the very first sub sandwich at the new location.

Guests will be are invited to visit the photo booth onsite, housed in a vintage 1960 Scotty trailer. Photos will be available on Jersey Mike’s local Facebook page.

Schanke has partnered with Manchester and Enfield High Schools to offer a work-study program. As part of the program, two students were hired as brand ambassadors, and three were hired in conjunction with the culinary program at Manchester High School.

"For more than 35 years, I have had this passion for giving to the community, just like Jersey Mike’s Founder Peter Cancro, who bought his first sub shop at age 17," Schanke said. "It’s that authentic commitment to making a difference that first attracted me to the brand. I’m excited to be part of the fabric of the Manchester community."

Schanke’s "give to give" philosophy is evidenced through his 30+ year involvement with an orphanage in Juarez, Mexico, where he has made multiple service trips with his family and serves on the board.

Since 2010, Jersey Mike’s locations throughout the country have raised more than $34 million for local charities and have distributed more than 2 million free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.
