MANCHESTER, CT — Plans are in the works to install "pedestrian actuated rectangular rapid flashing beacons," or RRFBs, at two locations on Main Street later this summer. That's a fancy terms for lighted crosswalks.

RRFB's are designed to alert motorists to an intended crossing with flashing LED beacons which are activated by a pedestrian push button. The RRFB’s are also equipped with lights that directly illuminate the crossing at night, officials said.

The new crossings are proposed at the Main Street/Myrtle Street/Brainard Place intersection and the Main Street/Birch Street/Locust Street intersection.
