Local Funeral Director Re-Elected to Statewide Board

Thomas J. Tierney of Manchester been re-elected to serve his fourth one-year term on the Executive Committee of the Connecticut Funeral Directors Association (CFDA).

Tierney is a licensed funeral director/embalmer and President/Owner of John F. Tierney Funeral Home Inc. in Manchester. The family-owned funeral firm was founded in 1956 by his grandparents, Barbara and John Tierney, and was owned and operated by his father, Thomas F. Tierney, along with the support of his mother, Kathleen Tierney, from 1983 to 2020.

He became a funeral director in 2003 after receiving his professional schooling from McAllister Institute of Funeral Service. He holds a B.S. in Business Management from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Conn.

Tierney lives in Manchester with his wife, Jana, and their two children. An active member of the community, he is the Secretary of the Board of the Saint James School Foundation, a Board member and Director of the Mayor’s Program for Manchester Children, and a past Trustee for the Manchester Elks. Tierney is Past-Chair and member of the Manchester St. Patrick’s Day Committee and works closely with the 5 C’s (Central Connecticut Celtic Cultural Committee). He was a Deputy Marshal for the 2017 Hartford St. Patrick’s Day Parade. That same year, Tierney and his wife, Jana, together received the Community Achievement Award by the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce.
