Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke and fire showing from the scrap yard. The fire involved a 40 foot diameter, 20 foot high pile of used appliances.

Fire crews protected the building with a hose line and used a nozzle mounted at the tip of a ladder truck to apply water to the fire from above. While this was going on, workers used heavy equipment to pull the pile apart.
