MANCHESTER, CT — Manchester residents are being asked to conserve water this week because of increased usage and a situation at the Globe Hollow Treatment plant.

Manchester Water Department officials said Monday that, in addition to a "slight increase" in normal water demands in June, "unforeseen water pump issues" at the Globe Hollow plant have "temporarily impacted water pumping capacity." As a result, the Water Department is asking customers to "help conserve water" until the installation of replacement pumps later this week.

the watering of lawns, officials said.

"Cutting back any unnecessary water usage will help until a temporary pump is in place and fully operational sometime later this week. Therefore, we ask that customers, wherever possible, please defer activities that may require large amounts of water until Saturday, June 26," the announcement said. "With cooperation and conservation, there should be an ample supply of water for normal household use with no interruption of service."
