Manchester's 2020 Memorial Day Parade Called Off

MANCHESTER, CT — There will be no Memorial Day parade in Manchester for 2020. General Manager Scott Shanley made the announcement Friday, based on a recommendation from the Manchester Permanent Memorial Day Committee.

"Associated public events," have also been called off, according to the announcement.

The committee will "recognize the solemnity of the day" by continuing the following traditions:

  • Wreaths will be placed at all the monuments in town (13)
  • Flowers will be planted at Civil War Monument and Spanish-American Monument
  • A minimum of one flag will be put up at each monument (13)

Town officials released a corresponsing statement:

"The Board of Directors of Manchester encourages all residents to spend time this Memorial Day 2020 to remember and recognize those who have fallen in your own, personal way. We will not forget."
