Mother Charged With Manslaughter In Manchester Child Death Case

A Manchester mother is facing a manslaughter charge in connection with the death of a toddler in Manchester, police said.

MANCHESTER, CT — The mother of a child found dead at a Manchester home in November has been charged with first-degree manslaughter, police said.

Alesha Cain, 30 of Manchester, was also charged with first-degree assault, cruelty to persons and risk of injury to a minor, according to an arrest report. She was held over the weekend on a $650,000 bond and was to appear in court Monday.

The case dates back to Nov. 26, when, at 2:43 a.m., Manchester police department patrol officers responded to an Oakland Street apartment following a 911 call that reported an unresponsive child.

After arriving at the scene, officers began resuscitative efforts on the 3-year-old boy before he was transported to Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford, according t0 an arrest report. The child was was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

An investigation into the circumstances of the child’s death was conducted by detectives from the MPD Investigative Services – Child Investigations Unit and a warrant was issued for Cain, identified in an arrest report as the child mother.
