NORTH-CENTRAL CONNECTICT — With afternoon temperatures expected to hover in the 50s and 60s this week, pothole season could very well be upon North-Central Connecticut.

The state Department of Transportation has made it easy to report a pothole:

  • Report a Pothole: State Roads: Notify the Department of Transportation of potholes on state roads using an electronic submittal form. State roads include the interstates, parkways, expressways, and other major roadways maintained by the state DOT. Click here for a reporting form.
  • Report a Pothole: Local Roads: Report potholes on local roads to municipal representatives through an individual town or city website. Click here for links to town websites.

Potholes are, well, holes in a roadway. They can be of all shapes and sizes and are caused by the expansion and contraction of ground water under pavement. When the water freezes, it expands.
