MANCHESTER, CT — As cleanup efforts from tropical storm Isaias were in full swing Wednesday, it was a slow go restoring power in Manchester.

As of 10:17 a.m., 8,943 homes were without power in Manchester, according to Eversource Energy. It was 8,800 at 1:30 p.m. By 4 p.m., the outages totaled 9,104.

The impact from Isaias, in terms of power outages, is greater than Superstorm Sandy in 2012, Eversource officials said Wednesday afternoon.

Operating under its "COVID-19 pandemic plan" and adhering to "strict social distancing, hygiene and enhanced sanitation measures to safeguard the health and well-being of workers and customers," Eversource crews began working around-the-clock shifts Wednesday, utility officials said.

Officials were advising residents to call 911 only in an emergency.

Generators should stay outdoors and 10 feet from a home, officials said.

All downed wires should be considered live until serviced, officials said.

"Reports indicate that it could be a while before restoration," police said. "Manchester Public Works, Manchester Police Department & Manchester Fire Rescue EMS personnel are all working hard to ensure roadways impacted by the storm are cleared and passable."
