Tornado Warning Canceled, Significant Damage In Northern CT

A tornado warning in the northern part of the state expired, but thousands of residents are without power tonight.

HARTFORD/TOLLAND COUNTY — The National Weather Service's Tornado Warning for southwestern Tolland County and southeastern Hartford County expired at 7:30 p.m. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 9 p.m Wednesday night for all Connecticut counties.

Eversource is reporting around 3,100 outages as of 8:40 p.m. Around 1,825 are located in Manchester. United Illuminating is reporting just 45 customer outages.

The National Weather Service said at "6:48 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Wethersfield moving east at 15 miles per hour." Also just before 6 p.m., the NWS said a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Glastonbury. There has been no confirmation that a tornado actually touched down in Connecticut on Wednesday.
