MANCHESTER, CT — Firefighters made quick work of a car enveloped in smoke near a busy interchange on Interstate-84 Tuesday morning.

The car fire was reported just after 9:30 a.m. on the westbound side of the highway. The driver managed to pull onto the right shoulder, underneath the warning sign for Exit 60, but the compact car was smoking heavily.

A sequence on the Connecticut Department of Transportation traffic cam system showed nine emergency vehicles at the scene. The right shoulder was closed along with the left and center lanes. Traffic in the left lane crawled past the scene as a team of fighrefighters doused the vehicle.
