Special Weather Statement Issued For Hartford/Tolland County

Strong thunderstorms are expected to move into northern parts of Connecticut soon, according to the weather service.

HARTFORD/TOLLAND/WINDHAM CT — The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for Hartford, Tolland and Windham county. A strong line of thunderstorms is moving from the Connecticut shoreline into the northern half of the state.

Here is the full weather statement from the National Weather Service:

"A cluster of thunderstorms developing. At 1:11 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of thunderstorms over North Madison, or 7 miles northeast of Guilford, moving northeast at 60 mph. Winds in excess of 30 mph will accompany these storms. Those near the Connecticut hospital tents are in the path of these storms and should prepare for gusty winds and possible lightning."

"Frequent lightning was occurring. Lightning can strike far away from the storm. Go inside a building or vehicle. Wait at least 30 minutes until after the storm has passed to resume outdoor activities," the weather service said.

Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 5pm, then scattered showers and thunderstorms after 5pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Patchy fog after 3pm. High near 59. South wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 37. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph.

Isolated showers after 3pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 50. West wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35. West wind 8 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.

Saturday
Mostly sunny, with a high near 51. Northwest wind 8 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.

Mostly clear, with a low around 32. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 58. Light south wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning.
