Winter Weather Advisory Issued For Hartford, Tolland County

The National Weather Service has just issued an advisory and a watch for Sunday and Monday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday. The advisory is for freezing rain which could cause slippery travel conditions Sunday morning. The freezing rain will change to plain rain later on Sunday morning.

The NWS says, "Freezing rain expected. Total ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch expected. Plan on slippery road conditions."

A High Wind Watch is also in effect for Northern Connecticut from Sunday evening through Monday evening. Winds will be between 20 to 30 mph and some gusts could reach up to 60 mph.

"Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles."

A chance of rain and sleet before 1am, then freezing rain. Low around 30. Calm wind becoming northeast around 5 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no sleet accumulation expected.

Sunday
Rain, mainly before 1pm. Patchy fog between 9am and 3pm. High near 44. Northeast wind 5 to 7 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Sunday Night
Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 34. West wind 8 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph.
