Ban On New Smoke, Vape And Tobacco Stores Sought: Milford Mayor

MILFORD, CT ? Mayor Anthony S. Giannattasio released a statement on Wednesday saying he is urging the city to create a new zoning regulation "prohibiting the opening of any new smoke shops, tobacco stores and vape shops in all zoning districts."
Here is the Mayor's full statement:
"In partnership with the Director of Health, Deepa Joseph, Mayor Anthony Giannattasio announced that he has submitted an application proposing a new zoning regulation prohibiting the opening of any new smoke shops, tobacco stores and vape shops in all zoning districts within the City. Mayor Giannattasio expects to present this proposed regulation to the Planning & Zoning Board at its regularly-scheduled meeting on August 21st.

"Mayor Giannattasio stated, ?emerging evidence underscores the severe health risks associated with these types of establishments. Smoke, tobacco and vape shops facilitate the sale of products that are harmful to one?s health and often employ marketing strategies that target young people.? Giannattasio added, ?the evidence is clear: smoke, tobacco and vape shops pose a significant threat to public health and it is time to take action to ban these establishments. The health and safety of our community must come first.?
