Bike Giveaway Launches Local Children on Path to Greater Fitness

The initiative gives kids increased mobility while helping them stay physically fit.

From Foundation for Life:Twenty-five children are in for a day full of surprises, including a new bike, thanks to Foundation for Life, Inc. and several local organizations. The youngsters and their families will be treated to free jump time courtesy of Launch Trampoline Park on July 22nd.

The event is one of nearly a dozen bike giveaways the Foundation for Life, supported in large part by employees of Sheltonbased Barnum Financial Group, is orchestrating this year.

“I remember what my first bike meant to me,” said Natalie DeMeis, a benefits executive at Barnum and
a member of the foundation’s board. “My colleagues and I at Barnum are proud to give youngsters the
same thrill we had when we got our first bike.”

Since 2007, the Foundation for Life has given away more than 3,000 bikes and helmets to
underprivileged children throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Rhode
Island. “Barnum’s employees give a substantial amount of time, talent, and funds to support “Bikes for
Kids”, said Paul Blanco, Founder and CEO of Barnum and co-founder of the Foundation for Life, along
with his wife Mindee who serves as Barnum’s chief operating officer. Also contributing to the costs of
providing the bikes is “kickstand” sponsors Napoli Motors of Milford, Rotary Club of Milford CT Inc. and
AAA Northeast (Milford Branch).

In addition, the children will each get a free helmet from Safe Kids Greater Naugatuck Valley.
Representatives will be there to help make sure the helmets fit properly to keep each child safe. In
addition, Rita’s of Milford will be providing a free icy. Mixali Media will be on hand donating their time
to photograph the event.
