Patch had the chance to chat with DeRubeis about the business that is proud to be a long standing, integral part of "The Small City with a Big Heart.”

Patch: How long have you been doing business in town?

DeRubeis: Our business was established in 1930. I have been a licensed funeral director for 46 years and a managing partner at Cody-White for 21 years.

Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?

DeRubeis: Getting involved in the funeral profession was not my first choice, unfortunately or fortunately. Growing up in “da Bronx,” my dream of becoming a NYC police officer was not to be, due to a childhood illness that caused partial loss of my hearing. However, the need to serve and help people steered me to the funeral profession.

Patch: If you had to sum up your business mission to a stranger in five words, what would those words be?

DeRubeis: “Live by the golden rule.”

Patch: What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced in your job?

DeRubeis: The most difficult situation I had to face in my profession is the nightmare called the COVID Pandemic!

Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?

DeRubeis: The most satisfying part of my job is knowing that we were able to guide people through their darkest hours.

Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others.

DeRubeis: Cody-White distinguishes itself from others by the superior services we render to our client families. Our landmark facility is conveniently located on the Historical Milford Green.

Patch: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given when it comes to success?

DeRubeis: The best piece of advice I was ever given was, “Live by the golden rule.”

Patch: What are you most proud of when it comes to your business?

DeRubeis: We have established a "Fallen Hero's Service" program, designed to recognize the efforts of all City of Milford and Town of Orange employees for their faithful service to our communities. If an untimely death should occur while working, we will provide a funeral service at no cost to the bereaved family. This is Cody-White's way of showing our gratitude to our communities for the many years of trust that have been bestowed upon us. We are proud to be an integral member of the "Small City with a Big Heart." We will always serve our communities as family because we are family!
