CT Weather: Last Day Of Heat Wave, Cooler Weather On The Horizon

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook and heat advisory for portions of Connecticut on Wednesday.

CONNECTICUT — Lets begin with the good weather news. No. 1, the weekend forecast looks very good with sunshine and comfortable temperatures in the 70s.

No. 2, the heat wave breaks on Thursday as high temperatures will be around 80 degrees and on Friday it will be even cooler with temperatures near 70 degrees.

And as for the not so great news, Wednesday is the fifth day of the ongoing heat wave as temperatures will approach 90 degrees once again. There is a chance for some storms in the afternoon hours, but the storm chances will be more isolated than widespread.

A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties. The weather service said, "there is a risk for thunderstorms with locally heavy rainfall this afternoon and evening. A few thunderstorms could become strong to severe this afternoon and evening."

A heat advisory is in effect from noon until 8 p.m. in northern Connecticut as the heat index will reach 96 degrees. It will be slightly cooler in southern Connecticut.

WTNH News 8 chief meteorologist Gil Simmons said the best chance for an isolated storm is between 3-7 p.m. Wednesday.

Today: Scattered showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 88. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Tonight: Scattered showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then isolated showers between midnight and 3am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. Calm wind becoming north around 6 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 80. Northeast wind around 9 mph becoming east in the afternoon.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 56. East wind around 9 mph.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 71. East wind around 9 mph.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 56.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 74.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 56.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 77.

Sunday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 59.

Today: A slight chance of showers between 1pm and 5pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 93. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 66. North wind 3 to 6 mph.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 86. North wind around 7 mph.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 53. South wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 74. Southeast wind 3 to 6 mph.

Friday Night: A slight chance of showers after 2am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 55. Southeast wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 76. Calm wind becoming northeast around 5 mph in the afternoon.
