CT Weather: Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued Wednesday

The National Weather Service is forecasting "strong to severe" thunderstorms Wednesday and some parts of Connecticut could see snow.

CONNECTICUT — This is a bizarre weather forecast for Connecticut. There is concern about severe thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon, strong wind gusts, and then possibly some snow and freezing temperatures in parts of the state.

The National Weather Service said there is a chance for strong to severe thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon as a cold front moves through. The primary threat will be damaging winds, the weather service said. A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for the entire state until 6 p.m. Wednesday.

WTNH News 8 chief meteorologist Gil Simmons said the strong thunderstorms are possible between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. He also said there is a small chance of a tornado, too. Heavy rain could drop up to a half inch of rain quickly on Wednesday.

The weather service said a freeze warning was issued for 2 a.m. until 9 a.m. Thursday in interior sections of Fairfield and New Haven counties as temperatures are expected to fall into the 20s.

The weather service said snow may mix in with rain after 10 p.m. in Litchfield County as temperatures free fall throughout Wednesday evening. No snow accumulation is expected.

Thursday will feel cold with temperatures struggling to hit 50 degrees, but strong wind gusts will make it feel much colder. We rebound with good weather Friday as the sun returns and so do 60-degree temperatures.
