CT Weather: Storms, Strong Winds On Memorial Day Weekend

Despite very unsettled weather this holiday weekend, there is a silver lining emerging if you have outdoor plans.

CONNECTICUT — As we all know, the Memorial Day weekend weather forecast isn't stellar, but there is a silver lining in there. The forecast for Memorial Day itself is improving and Connecticut should see plenty of sunshine, especially in the afternoon and temperatures will be around 70 degrees.

And that ends the good news portion of this forecast. Rain moves in later Friday and up to two inches of rain may fall through Sunday morning. The heaviest of the rain is expected to be overnight and Saturday morning.

Temperatures will be very cold with highs only in the low 50s and strong wind gusts on Saturday. Sunday will be chilly too with temperatures in the upper 50s and more rain during the day.

A coastal flood advisory is in effect from midnight to 4 a.m. Saturday for the coast of Fairfield and New Haven County.

WTNH News 8 chief meteorologist Gil Simmons said we can expect rain to begin 4-7 p.m. Friday and "very heavy rain overnight tonight."

"It looks like between 1 inch and 2.5 inches of rain expected into tomorrow morning," Simmons wrote on social media. "On the chilly side tomorrow with the rain tapering some drizzle. Chilly again on Sunday with some spotty rain developing again. Good news for Memorial Day as it is now looking (dry) for the entire day and any events or parades going on."
