CT Weather: Thunderstorms, More Rain For Thursday, Friday

CONNECTICUT — The state could see more rain and thunderstorms on both Thursday and Friday and some storms may be strong.

Rain moves in during the overnight hours and will continue through Thursday morning. The rain will be more sporadic in the afternoon hours. Thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon and evening hours. More rain is forecast for Friday morning and then there is a chance for more thunderstorms on Friday afternoon.

"The rain intensity will become more steady and moderate and potentially heavy at times for Thursday for the morning into early afternoon...," the National Weather Service said. "The showers could become more periodic for mid to late afternoon and into early evening ... Another round of rain showers will be likely at night...

Some storms could produce gusty winds and the rain could be heavy at times. Minor flooding is also a concern, the weather service cautions.

On Friday, there may be periods of sun which is a "more conducive environment for the eventual development of thunderstorms with warmer temperatures, and with the same humidity levels generally from the day before, more instability."

WTNH News 8 chief meteorologist Gil Simmons said on social media, "Plan on some rain at times tomorrow morning and during the day with a thunderstorm possible. I’m expecting a thunderstorm on Friday then turning dry and heating up over the weekend! A heat wave early next week!"

Showers likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 9am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 65. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 3am, then showers likely. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 62. Southwest wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Showers likely before 9am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 9am and 3pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3pm. Cloudy, with a high near 76. Southwest wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 61. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph.
