Since 2011, the Milford Democrats have led the city with competence, grace, fiscal responsibility, and innovative vision. From the Mayor's office to the Board of Aldermen, the Board of Education and the Planning and Zoning Board, the Democratic majorities delivered results that transformed Milford into a model Connecticut community.
During this transformative period, and continuing today with our majorities on the Boards, Milford's Democratic leadership demonstrated that effective governance requires more than just political rhetoric?it demands dedication, strategic planning, and an unwavering commitment to residents' quality of life. The accomplishments achieved during these years laid a foundation for prosperity that continues to benefit families, businesses, and future generations.
Meeting Challenges with Steady Leadership
We navigated a pandemic with steady leadership that prioritized public health while supporting local businesses and ensuring essential services continued uninterrupted. Under our leadership, Milford has received recognition for sound financial management and environmental stewardship, earning accolades from state and national organizations that acknowledged Milford's commitment to sustainable growth and responsible budgeting. These achievements reflected real policies that kept property taxes stable, maintained the city's excellent bond rating, and invested in green infrastructure.
Our children excelled in school, consistently ranking among Connecticut's top performing districts. Democratic leadership on the Board of Education championed increased funding for STEM programs, world language in elementary school, and expanded arts education, in learning environments where every student could thrive. Teachers received competitive salaries and professional development opportunities, ensuring that Milford attracted and retained the finest educators. The result was a school system that became a primary reason families chose to call Milford home.

Economic Development and Quality of Life
Democratic leadership understood that Milford's success depended on smart economic development that enhanced the city's character. We recognized the challenge, to offset a $56 million+ drop in our grand list, that we needed to attract new businesses while addressing operational costs. The Planning and Zoning Board approved projects that diversified the tax base while working within state regulations to preserve the coastal charm that makes Milford special. Downtown revitalization initiatives brought new restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues that transformed the area into a vibrant destination.
Infrastructure improvements were substantial and strategic. Roads were repaired, drainage systems upgraded, and public facilities modernized?all accomplished while maintaining fiscal discipline. Parks and recreation facilities received significant investments, such as the Splash Pad and Pickleball courts, expanding opportunities for families to enjoy outdoor activities and strengthening community bonds.
Building an Inclusive Community
The Democratic leadership worked tirelessly to ensure Milford remained welcoming and inclusive. Initiatives supporting senior citizens, veterans, and diverse populations demonstrated that good governance means serving all residents. Community programs flourished, public safety remained a top priority with well-equipped police and fire departments, and social services expanded to meet growing needs.
The Board of Aldermen passed forward-thinking ordinances that addressed emerging challenges while respecting individual liberties. From supporting small businesses to protecting natural resources, from improving affordable housing options to enhancing public transportation, the legislative agenda reflected residents' values and priorities.
A Legacy of Excellence
We made Milford THE place to live and play?not through empty promises, but through consistent delivery of effective governance. The Democratic accomplishments during the past 14 years created a city where families felt secure, businesses could prosper, and the natural environment was protected for future generations, being named the 3rd Best Place to Raise a Family in New Haven County, the 29th Best School District in CT, and one of the best places for young professionals and for retirement (Niche). This legacy established Milford as a Connecticut success story, proving that Democratic values of community investment, fiscal responsibility, and inclusive governance produce tangible results.
