MILFORD, CT- The Junior Woman's Club of Milford had the great honor of presenting the first Community Excellence Award to none other than "Milford's Santa," Rick George.

The award, previously known as the "Living Treasure Award," is bestowed upon a candidate whose community service has enriched Milford and made it a better community in which to live in. The organization lowered the age requirement for nominations to 55, in order to showcase as many incredible citizens as possible. The core value of the award remains the same: having a history of extraordinary service in the Milford community. For a history of past Living Treasures, click here.

Rick has spent numerous years lending a supportive hand to several causes, including 26 years with the City of Milford Animal Control, the last five years as Director. Many saw him as the friendly face for eight years as a greeter for JFK Elementary and West Shore Middle School. He has long supported several Milford nonprofits and churches, including: The Boys and Girls Club, United Way, and The Junior Woman's Club.

Rick?s Santa journey began 32 years ago volunteering as Santa Claus to raise funds for the Milford Animal Control with Pet Photos with Santa. In more recent years, some very helpful, kind hearted elves (his beloved garage buddies), helped Rick build two mobile Santa Workshops so that he could help raise funds for various organizations by providing Santa visits to families across the state.

Mayor Ben Blake presented a proclamation and declared November 17, 2022 as Rick "Santa Rick" George Day in the City of Milford. A personalized stepping stone with Rick's name will be added to the Walkway in the back of City Hall.
