Coleman, 20, of Milford died last year while training with the university's gymnastics team.

MILFORD, CT — Southern Connecticut State University gymnastics has announced that they will dedicate its first home meet of the 2020 season to Melanie Coleman. The Owls' quad meet against Springfield, Cornell and SUNY Brockport on Sunday, Jan. 26 will be Melanie Coleman Day at James Moore Field House.
At the conclusion of competition, the Owls will pay tribute to Melanie with a video commemorating her life and time at Southern Connecticut. Southern Connecticut will also have commemorative posters available. SCSU Athletics and the Southern Connecticut School of Nursing held a memorial service for Coleman at the end of the first semester in which members of the community as well as the gymnastics teams shared their favorite memories of Melanie.
Coleman passed tragically on Nov. 10 while training with the Owls. She was a nationally-recognized student-athlete for their academic excellence during her entire collegiate career, a natural leader and beloved teammate.
