Milford 10U Softball Earns Seabreeze Championship
Championship adds to Milford Little League's Collection
The Milford Little League Softball program has enjoyed tremendous success in post-season play this year, with the Milford 12u District All-Stars winning the State title and the 10u District All-Stars securing the District 4 title. The Softball program’s success continued at Stankye Field in Orange, when the Milford 10u Seabreeze All-Stars defeated a talented Stratford team, 9 to 3, to win the Seabreeze Championship for 2019.
Entering the Championship game, the Milford team had a blistering run in pool play, scoring an average of 11 runs per game while allowing just over 2 runs per game. Milford’s success was the product of a talented pitching staff led by Sophia Horvack, Madison Bonanno and Lilly Olmstead; an error-free defense led by Melanie Kirby, Cassandra Rodriquez, Madison Krauss and Lily Stankevich; and a high-powered offense led by Jordyn Torres, Bonanno, Olmstead, Kirby and Rodriquez.
Those same elements led the Milford team to success in the Championship game against Stratford. Horvack and Bonanno combined to strike out 11 Stratford batters. Krauss led Milford’s defense with three spectacular plays at Shortstop, while Chloe Capalbo threw out a Stratford runner at second from right field while attempting to stretch a single into a double. Milford’s offense was led by Bonanno, Olmstead, Rodriquez, Horvack, and Krauss – each of whom had hits and scored, with Rodriquez singling twice and Bonnano scoring twice. Aislyn McKernan drove in a run, and Lexi Kirby, Melanie Kirby and Jocelyn Dimes scored for Milford, to help secure the win.
