Milford 12U Softball All-Stars Repeat as State Champions
Explosive 5-run 5th inning fuels come from behind victory

The Milford Little League District All Star softball team successfully defended their State Championship crown winning the best 2 of 3 series with Waterford this weekend.
Milford opened the series with a convincing 11-1 victory at Brewster Field in Milford on Saturday. Kelsea Flanagan’s 3RBI’s and Madyson Bull’s 2 lead the power surge for Milford. Avery Falco added 2 hits and an RBI. Julia O’Connell, Lauren Worzel and Cassie Rodriguez each provided hits in the 10-hit attack.
Madyson Bull threw a complete game giving up 3 hits while striking out 10.

In game 2 on Sunday, Waterford gained an early 1-0 lead on an RBI triple in the top of the 2nd inning. Milford responded with a run of their own. Kelsea Flanagan delivered a lead-off blast to deep center. Alyssa Joye followed with an RBI single typing the game at 1 after 2 innings.
Waterford would take the lead in the top of the 5th. A lead- off single and dropped third strike put two runners on. An RBI single would give Waterford a 2-1 lead and a wild pitch scored Paige Jessuck to extend the lead to 3-1.

In the bottom of the 5th, Waterford got 2 quick outs when they retired Lauren Worzel on a grounder to third and Erika Fabian on a fly out to second base. Julia O’Connell then started the 2-out rally with a perfectly placed infield single. Madyson Bull followed with a single putting runners at first and second. Avery Falco took the first pitch of her at-bat and sent it to the fence in right scoring O’Connell and Bull. Alyssa Joye put Milford ahead with a single to center scoring Falco. Kaitlyn Dzialo provided some insurance with an RBI single scoring Flanagan giving Milford a 5-3 lead after 5 innings.
Waterford would threaten in the top of the 6th. A lead-off error and consecutive hit batters loaded the bases with 1 out. Milford’s defense stepped up when it needed on a difficult grounder back to the mound to get the force at home on a close play. Bull then retired Waterford on a fly out back to the mound, securing the back to back State Championship for Milford.
Milford wraps up it’s season with an 11-1 record. Due to Covid-19, Milford will be unable to compete as Team Connecticut in the Eastern Regionals, as that round of the tournament has been canceled. In 2019, Milford lost 3-2 to Pennsylvania in the Regional Championship game last year.
Since 2018, this team has won 1 New England Championship, 2 State, Sectional and District Championships.
