Milford 12U Softball District All Stars Hold Off Fairfield 3-2

The Milford Little League 12u District All Star softball team advanced in the Winner’s Bracket of the Little League Sectional Tournament with a 3-2 win over Fairfield Sunday morning at Dougiello Park in Fairfield.

Mlford carried a 3-0 lead into the 6th inning but held off a late Fairfield rally for the one-run victory.

In the Milford 1st inning, Madyson Bull lined a one-out single to left and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. On the next pitch, Bull was safe on a steal of third and scored on the catcher’s overthrow giving Milford the 1-0 lead.

Avery Falco worked a walk and also advanced to second and third on a wild pitches. Alyssa Joye followed with a walk putting runners on the corners. Charlotte Doyle delivered an RBI single scoring Falco, but Fairfield cut down Joye at the plate ending the inning at 2-0.

Fairfield would threaten in the second inning with a long lead-off double by Tournas and a single by Colangelo. Starter Madyson struck out 2 of the next 3 Fairfield batters to retire the side, holding the lead at 2-0.

Milford would tack on a much-needed insurance run in the 6th. Kelsea Flanagan led off with a single. Alyssa Joye delivered an RBI double scoring Flanagan giving Milford a 3-0 lead.

Fairfield would rally in the 6th, with a double and advance to third on an overthrow. A single to left scored Tavella to cut the lead to 3-1. Following a strikeout, Encarnacion reached on a Milford error scoring Solon making it 3-2. Bull then picked up her 13th strike out on the day for the second out, but on the steal attempt of third base, an offensive interference call against Fairfield ended the game with a 3-2 Milford victory.
