Milford Approves Borrowing $17 Million: These Projects Are Funded

MILFORD, CT — The Board of Aldermen approved in excess of $17 million in borrowing to fund various capital projects in Milford.

Here is a summary of what the money will be spent on:

• $5.5 million on road, parking lot, sidewalk and curb repaving
• $1.98 million on various building maintenance improvements at Fannie Beach Center, Parsons Center, Public Works, and Margaret Egan Center.
• $550,000 for park, playground repair and recreation upgrade. A new playground is planned for the Point Beach Community.
• $550,000 for various erosion and flood control projects
• $742,000 for a new pumper/engine to replace a 2006 fire department vehicle
• $660,000 for Gulf Beach Harbor fishing revetment
• $2.75 million to purchase the former St. Gabriel School property, which is 9-acres
• $2.75 million for various school projects including $1.5 million for continued security upgrades and $1.1 million for HVAC upgrades. The plan is to add hardened vestibules to the front entrances of all schools and officials hope to complete 2-3 per year.
• $1.995 million for sewer upgrades

Mayor Ben Blake noted that typically the city borrows $30 million annually and it was $17 million for this year, but officials expect to come back again and approve funding for the Pumpkin Delight School project.
