MILFORD, CT — Milford continues to honor the legacy of Danni Kemp, a Joseph A. Foran High School graduate, who died after a courageous battle against an inoperable brain tumor in 2017.

This past week weekend Foran’s newly renovated softball field was named the Danielle Kemp Memorial Field.

While at Foran High School, Danni was a three sport athlete, playing volleyball, basketball, and softball. Softball however was her greatest love and she received many accolades and awards as a result of her accomplishments, school officials said.

Danni began playing softball at the age of 7, starting with the local Milford International Little League program. By the age of 11, she had already joined the travel team circuit and played with several highly competitive travel teams in the area over the years.

Danni had an illustrious softball career while at Foran, where she has served as a 4-year starter at both catcher and short stop. She received several athletic accolades during her high school career, including being named a member of the AllSCC and Class L All-State softball teams.

In 2015, Danni signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball at Stony Brook University (Div. I). She served as a utility player for the Seawolves, beginning in the 2015-16 season.

She was playing softball when she was diagnosed with a rare, inoperable brain tumor. The diagnosis came just as a rare kidney cancer she was diagnosed with in high school had gone into remission. She missed the fall semester at college to undergo radiation treatment. She had started treatments for the tumor at Yale New Haven Hospital and next traveled to Germany for a series of treatments.

Several fundraising events have taken place since then, including the very popular ‘Dash for Danni’ event, designed to raise funds and awareness of DIPG.
