From Milford Fire Rescue:
Hurricane season starts June 1. Therefore, residents are encouraged to begin preparing for the potential summer storms that could occur in our area in late summer or early fall. Preparing in advance for a tropical storm or hurricane can help reduce injuries and loss of life as well as reduce property damage.
Residents are encouraged to create a disaster plan for their families, monitor the local weather reports and be aware that, if one is required to evacuate, it is important to know in advance where one will seek shelter. A relative or friend’s house and hotels are all viable options. Milford’s primary temporary shelter is Jonathan Law High School, located at 20 Lansdale Ave.

Residents must be sure to include sleeping gear if they are going to a temporary shelter and to not forget to bring along their prescription medication. All important documents, including insurance papers, should be placed in waterproof plastic bags and kept in one's possession. Taking video or photo’s of one's property in advance will better facilitate insurance claims.
Residents should secure all outdoor furniture, trash cans and other items that could easily blow away.
