Megan Thornberg, who created the fundraising page, said Josh was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, classical/lymphocyte-rich type on Nov. 19.

"Since then, he has been undergoing various tests to see what stage he is, and prepare him for chemotherapy and possibly radiation treatment," Megan wrote in the GoFundMe. "His team at Smilow Cancer Center is extremely optimistic about his recovery, and he will be starting treatment hopefully before the month is up.

"His bills have already started adding up, on top of paying for his wedding next year, and expenses in his and Kasia's daily lives. And, of all the months for this to happen, his deductible renews in 30 days. Any help to lighten the load would be very appreciated, and would go directly to Josh's medical bills, rent, and food. We greatly appreciate each and every one of you for your kind words and support after Josh's diagnosis.

Milford firefighters wrote on social media, "We look forward to supporting him and his family as he overcomes his diagnosis!"
