Top Milford officials have released their recommendations to help ensure everyone has a safe and fun Halloween.

MILFORD, CT — Top Milford officials have released their recommendations to help ensure everyone has a safe and fun Halloween.

Mayor Ben Blake and City Health Director Deepa Joseph filmed a short video, which includes guidance for celebrating Halloween during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic.

Joseph said the city wants to ensure everyone has both a "happy and healthy" Halloween. She urged residents to partake in "low risk" activities and to ensure you avoid indoor parties with 25 or more people. Low-risk activities can include outdoor events where social-distancing can be maintained.

She said traditional trick-or-treating is considered a "higher risk" activity, and that you'll want to only go out with your immediate household and not in larger groups this year. She also said you'll want to wear a proper face mask, but definitely not under a costume mask as that may make it hard to breathe.

For people who plan to disseminate candy on Halloween, Joseph advised that they also wear a mask, stay 6-feet apart and try and come up with creative ways to get the candy to trick-or-treaters. She said some folks plan to use a clothesline to get the candy to people.
