​Milford Hospital Nurses Recognized With Awards

Four Milford Hospital nurses were selected to be recipients of the 2017 Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing.

From Milford Hospital: Linda Gibbons, RN, Cathy Mazzola, RN, Sherri Rodriguez, RN and Shilpa Tekriwala, RN, BSN were honored for their professional achievements at an awards dinner and program held at Anthony’s Ocean View in New Haven on May 10th.

Each of the honorees were nominated by their peers. Criteria for the award is having demonstrated clinical excellence and having “gone above and beyond the call” in their daily professional duties. “We couldn’t be more proud of these honorees and are delighted to recognize their accomplishments said Joseph Pelaccia, Milford Hospital President & CEO. “Linda, Cathy, Sherri and Shilpa are extremely dedicated to the care of our patients and to advancing the nursing profession. It is a well-deserved recognition for our outstanding Milford Hospital nurses.”.

Linda Gibbons, RN, started her nursing career at Milford hospital in the ICU for 8 years. She has since transitioned to the Emergency Department and now the Medical/Surgical Unit. She has a vast knowledge of clinical care and years of experience. Linda is always willing to mentor new staff and has unwavering support for all of her peers. “Linda is known for overwhelming care and compassion for her patients, always willing to go the extra mile.”

Cathy Mazzola, RN, has been helping patients at Milford Hospital for 32 years. She currently works in the Surgi-Center and on the Post Anesthesia Care Unit demonstrating her extensive background of experience of skills in critical care, peri-anesthesia, and perioperative nursing. When she has days off from patient care, Cathy can be found working in the Quality Management Department of Milford Hospital. “She has volunteered herself many times to come in early, stay late, pick up extra call and float back & forth between departments to accommodate organizational needs and provide safe, quality nursing care to our patients.”

During her 18 years at Milford Hospital, Sherri Rodriguez, RN, has consistently demonstrated knowledgeable and compassionate care for her patients’ in the Operating Room. Sherri’s natural abilities as a leader were put to good use when she acted as the OR supervisor during a transitionary period. “Her outstanding clinical skills and expertise as well as her ability to work well with others has earned her the respect of her patients, family, and co-workers.”

Shilpa Tekriwala, RN, serves in the Milford Hospital Operating Rooms. She consistently demonstrates exceptional performance in delivering quality of care to our surgical patients. She is a very knowledgeable, yet humble OR nurse with strong clinical skills and sound judgement. According to the nominations, “Shilpa goes above and beyond the call of duty, readily available to provide support to our staff and serve our patients.”

According to Pelaccia, “Milford Hospital consistently ranks among the top hospitals in the state in patient experience measures. I believe this is because our dedicated nurses give their all in providing high quality and compassionate health care to all of our patients. Shilpa, Sherri, Cathy, and Linda truly represent the highest caliber of caregivers and they reflect the compassion and commitment of all our Milford Hospital nurses.”
