Segar graduated from University of Connecticut in 2017 where she studied English language and literature at the university's Avery Point campus and went on to work in the bridal industry, according to UConn Today.
She reached out to the university's Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation and earned an invitation to the program's 2020 Summer Fellowship Accelerator along with $15,000 in startup funding. The experience allowed her "to get started on my company, but it also gave me tremendous confidence in myself in a way that surprised me," she told UConn Today.
She said she came up with the idea for onewith after a search for a "flattering" swimsuit to wear on a vacation to Miami. She told UConn she wanted something that "felt one" with her body and offered a seamless design that fit like underwear, but with flattering silhouettes and swimwear sophistication.
The "Shark Tank" episode featuring Segar will air Friday at 8 p.m. on ABC.
