Milford Scouts, Stop & Shop Team Up For Annual Food Drive

Stop & Shop is donating 350 turkeys and $3,000 for families in need. Scouts and volunteers will be packing and delivering meals Saturday.

MILFORD, CT — Stop & Shop is teaming up with the Milford Scouts to help provide more than 300 families with Thanksgiving meals this year under its annual Thanks-for-Giving Food Drive, according to organizers.

Stop & Shop’s Turkey Express has donated 350 Thanksgiving turkeys and $3,000 in gift cards to help the scouts, local residents and Stop & Shop volunteers put together holiday meal bags for families in need to be delivered throughout the weekend.

According to Feeding America food insecurity concerns continue to rise as a consequence of the coronavirus pandemic. Social distancing has further complicated food distributions due to limits around the number of volunteers allowed on site, health and safety precautions, and other restrictions at distribution locations.

For the 16th, and arguably most important year yet, the Milford Scouts along with Stop & Shop will help to ensure that neighbors in need have access to wholesome, high quality holiday meals this Thanksgiving. Food insecurity across Connecticut has increased by nearly 60 percent, and it is estimated that 1 in 4 children struggle with hunger.

Patch has partnered with Feeding America to help raise awareness on behalf of the millions of Americans facing hunger. Feeding America, which supports 200 food banks across the country, estimates that in 2020, more than 50 million Americans will not have enough nutritious food to eat due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. This is a Patch social good project; Feeding America receives 100 percent of donations. Find out how you can donate in your community or find a food pantry near you.
