Milford's Howes Drug Store Celebrates Grand Re-Opening

The downtown business has been a 104-year-old institution in Milford.

Howes Drug and Medical has been a Milford business staple for 104 years. This week new management gathered patrons and officials to celebrate the business’s history and a newly designed store, according to a report from the Milford Mirror.

Raymond Pantalena Jr., the new owner of Howes, purchased the business last year from Andy Allegretti, the Milford Mirror reports, who adds Allegretti still works full time at Howes as a pharmacist. Former co-owner Frank Cocchiaro has since retired.

The business is located at 78 Broad St. in downtown Milford. The business has evolved over its history but residents still enjoy the atmosphere. Its facilities were remodeled in 2015.

Updates, the Mirror reports, include a larger, walk-in full service pharmacy area, pharmacy consultation desks, and a home medical equipment and surgical supplies showroom. Prescriptions can also be delivered to patients for free.

Ernest Judson, a Milford pharmacist who started working at Howes as a teenager, said Howes is the last independently-owned pharmacy in Milford.

Howes Drug & Medical is independently owned and operated by pharmacists with decades of combined experience in healthcare management and pharmacy business.

According to their Facebook page, their convenient location across from the Milford Green and down the street from Milford Hospital gives them a unique opportunity to serve a variety of patients and clinical facilities.
