More Details On Why Golden Corral Closed In Milford

A spokesman for the franchise owner gave some explanations as to why the location closed.

MILFORD, CT — Golden Corral in Milford faced an uphill battle for profit from the start due to the price of doing business in Connecticut, according to a spokesman for the franchise owner. Spokesman Michele Zommer said Golden Corral had some doubts from the start about success of the Milford location, according to the New Haven Register.

Franchise owner Ricardo Rozier would have had to invest more money to make a profit or close the business, the newspaper reported.

Golden Corral opened to much fanfare in spring 2017 and was Connecticut's only location for the buffet chain. The Milford location posted a quick note on Facebook about the closure then deleted the page.

The note read, "It has been a privilege serving our loyal customers and fans who regularly traveled across our state and New York to dine here with your family and friends. We especially appreciate the many staff members for their contributions, their smiles, and their hard work."

The Milford Golden Corral had a two-star rating on Yelp, with many complaining about the quality of food.

One reviewer posted, "If I could give it no stars I would. This was my first and last time here. The salads on the salad bar were dried out and crusty on the tops, the lettuce was yellow and brown must have been at least a week old. The green beans, carrots and lime beans must have been reheated for several days, there was hardly any color in them. There was no labels on most all of the mush that they called food, which most of it was unrecognizable. There was a hard crust on what looked like an orange cheese sauce, when I moved the ladle it cracked, I don't want to know how long that had been there for. The waitress asked why I had no food, I told her and she said she works there and wouldn't eat there!!!"

Golden Corral has nearly 500 locations across the country with eight in New York State and one in Massachusetts, according to the company's website.
