MILFORD, CT — The Milford Public School district announced the appointment of Sarah Harris as the Instructional Supervisor for Humanities, grades 6-12, in Milford.
"Harris has an extensive background that will help drive the work of instruction in grades 6-12 in the areas of English/Language Arts, World Language, Social Studies, and English as a 2nd Language (ESL)," district officials announced in a news release.
She will begin her post in Milford on July 1. Harris earned all of her degrees and certifications from the University of Connecticut (Storrs). In 2012, she received both a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and psychology, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in social studies education, graduating summa cum laude for both. One year later, she completed her Master of Arts degree in curriculum and instruction. In 2018, she completed and received her 6th year certificate (092) in school administration.

Harris comes to Milford from the Wethersfield Public School system, where she most recently
served as the district’s Instructional Supervisor of Technology, K-12. During her 2-year post there, she developed and implemented the district’s $1.5 million technology budget, ensuring alignment with curricular and instructional goals.

Her work included the creation of a cross-disciplinary team of 20 educators and community members, focused on inclusive practices and accessibility in classrooms across 8 school buildings, officials said.
This work was made possible through a U.S. Department of Education grant she pursued and was ultimately awarded for the district, one of only seven districts in the nation to receive this funding, officials said.
Her work also involved the district’s migration to distance and hybrid learning plans, as well as establishing a set of best practices for school district digital documentation of written curriculum.
She oversaw the curriculum development and revision for all content areas, K-12, across the district. Serving as a leader in professional development, Harris orchestrated all professional learning opportunities for certified staff and was a participant in many state level leadership initiatives, including those offered through the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) and the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC).
Prior to her work in Wethersfield, Harris was a member of the Portland Public School system. She served as the district’s K-12 Social Studies Curriculum Specialist for three years.
In addition to her Curriculum Specialist role in Portland, Harris was a social studies teacher at the middle school level for six years. While there, she was pivotal in their integration of 1:1 Chromebook distribution.
“As an educator, I have always believed that collaboration is key," Harris said. "We are stronger together, and I look forward to partnering with teams across the district to provide our students with high quality, authentic, and accessible learning opportunities. I am excited to join the Milford Public Schools community to celebrate our successes and focus on continuous improvement!”
Anna Cutaia, Superintendent of Schools, said “We are eager to onboard Ms. Harris as we believe she will bring great value to our school system. Her core beliefs and practices align with Milford Public Schools’ work in High Quality Instruction, the Relationships Framework and the Vision of the Learner."
