Car Thefts, Robberies Spike In Milford, Police Say
Milford's police chief said on two occasions the attempted thefts resulted in drivers trying to get away and hitting police cars.
MILFORD, CT — Police Chief Keith Mello delivered a sobering message for members of the city's Board of Police Commissioners.
The longtime chief said car thefts and robberies are on the rise in Milford. He said on two occasions the attempted thefts resulted in thieves trying to get away and hitting police cars. He added a number of arrests have been made including an investigative search of a hotel room and guns and ammunition were found.
Mello similar crimes are occurring in surrounding communities.

Chairman Richard Smith asked what the department’s pursuit policy was and Mello said officers do not pursue cases involving property crimes but do pursue cases involving violent crimes or if the driver of the vehicle is wanted for a dangerous crime.
He emphasized their goal to find other ways to prevent stolen car crimes and most importantly emphasized the need to have people lock their cars.
