Obituary: George Banet, Purple Heart Recipient, 93

George Banet, age 93, of Milford, beloved husband of Kathryn J. McDermott died on Tuesday, Oct. 8.

George was born in Budapest, Hungary on September 16, 1920 to the late Elmer and Sarah Schwartz Banet. He moved to the United States and worked as Branch Chief in the Department of Juvenile Probation for the City of New York for over 30 years.

He earned a purple heart during World War II while enduring the loss of his family during the Holocaust. He was a soccer star, a tennis lover, a dedicated husband, father, grandfather. He was an encourager, a supporter, and a man who looked to make changes in this complex world.

Survivors include his two daughters, Susan Lombardo (Thomas Girdzis) of Milford and Michelle (Richard) Palamone of Long Island, four granddaughters; Kimberly (Michael) Caravello, Lindsey Lombardo, Jamie Marotta and Jenna (Morris) Mete, and one great granddaughter, Leah Caravello.
