Obituary: Geraldine (Gerry) Wilkes, 89, Of Milford

MILFORD, CT ? Geraldine (Gerry) Wilkes, age 89, of Milford, Connecticut returned to her Lord and Savior on February 4, 2024.

Gerry was born on October 17, 1934 in Robson County, North Carolina to the late Lawrence and Grace Wilkes. Throughout her life she made her way up east, first to New York and later Connecticut, but never lost touch with her southern roots despite distance.

She was most proud of her lifelong commitment to health and fitness, completing multiple marathons including New York and Boston. The passion led her to become an avid walker, enabling her to explore and make connections with her community.

Gerry was strong willed and passionate about causes she believed in. She was proud of her accomplishments and her family. She was a great source of strength to all who were a part of her life.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Roddy (spouse Robert Roddy) of Milford, CT and son Eugene Lauer, JR. (spouse Marianne Lauer) of Darien, CT. Grandchildren: Rachel Roddy (spouse Charles Lopresto), Logan Roddy (partner Melissa Jensen), Michael Lauer (spouse Shannon Lauer) and Stephen Lauer and great grandchild Lola Lopresto.

Gerry is also survived by two sisters: Diane Wilkes Hardee of Lumberton, NC and Elizabeth (Libby) Wilkes Ferguson (spouse Don Ferguson) of St. Pauls, NC and her brother Britt's widow, Sara Wilkes Cameron (spouse Larry Cameron).

She is predeceased by one brother, Britt Wilkes, and one sister, Jeannette Wilkes West.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday February 29, 2024 at the Cody-White Funeral Home (107 Broad St., Milford Ct 06460) from 4 to 7 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday March 1, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church (21 Robert Treat Pkwy, Milford, CT 06460) at 10 a.m. PLEASE MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH. Internment to follow at Kings Highway Cemetery in Milford, CT.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gerry's name can be made to the Milford Senior Center.
