Why do you believe the teacher should be recognized or honored?
Melissa is one of the hardest working and most inspirational teachers I?ve ever met. I first had her 20 years ago, and when I returned to work at the school as a substitute, she was the one who guided me on my own path toward certification. As I start my own journey as an English teacher this upcoming fall, there is perhaps nobody I?m more grateful for, for not only believing in me, but for instilling and celebrating my own love of the Reading and Writing, which she continues to do daily in her own classroom for both current students, and like me, former students.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the teacher?
Even if you feel like everyone else has given up on you, she won?t. She?s had students who hate to read, and managed to get C Thomas Howell to virtually introduce The Outsiders to her class, which allowed them to change their whole perspective on the importance of literature.
