MILFORD, CT ? Plans to open a location of a popular restaurant in Milford hit a snag when the Planning and Zoning Board rejected a proposal to change parking regulations, Hearst Connecticut reported.

The board voted 5-4 to support the measure, but it needed six votes to pass.

Raising Cane's, a popular and expanding fried chicken restaurant, is planning on adding its third location in the state at the 1455 Boston Post Road site, a former Milford Bank branch.

The existing parking standard is one space per 75 square feet of floor space at a restaurant. Raising Cane's sought to change that to one space per 150 square feet of floor space specifically for fast-food restaurants.

Raising Cane's petitioned the town to change the requirements, stating that they were outdated and that "it makes little sense to require a 'fast-food restaurant' to provide the same number of parking spaces that a regular sit-down restaurant would be required to provide."

Some of those who opposed the regulation change said it was too broad and could encompass the vast majority of the city's eateries, according to Hearst Connecticut.
