Spirits of Milford Ghost Walks to Kick Off 2021 Season on April 9

Lantern-lit tours of downtown Milford blend stories about city history with the macabre -- and are scarily good!

Spirits of Milford Ghost Walks' eighth year of giving lantern-lit tours through downtown Milford will kick off the weekend of April 9 and run through mid-November. Weaving tales of the macabre with local history, the walks start at the Hotchkiss Bridge near Lisman Landing on Factory Lane and draw paranormal enthusiasts from throughout the United States.

Led by Milford writer and storyteller Cindy Wolfe Boynton, the popular tours take participants on a roughly 1.15-mile loop through downtown Milford, ending at Milford Cemetery. The route is wheelchair and scooter accessible.

With participants also getting the chance to try out paranormal investigation tools like EMF detectors and dowsing rods, stories told at stops along the route include:

  • The distraught Paugusset Indian who strangled and killed her two young sons near Milford Harbor 400 years ago
  • The three deadly curses cast on Charles Island, including the curse made by Captain Kidd
  • Why almost-300-year-old Capt. Stephen Stow has never left his house on High Street
  • The accused Colonial witch buried in Milford Cemetery
  • And other unexplainable and frightening tales
