Thousands Without Power in Connecticut Due to High Winds

The Wind Advisory is still in effect for all of Connecticut and we'll let you know when conditions are expected to improve.

The National Weather Service says a “Wind Advisory” remains in effect for all of southern Connecticut, which includes Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and New London counties until 12 p.m. Tuesday.

The advisory remains in effect for Hartford and Tolland counties until 2 p.m. Tuesday. While the advisories may end this afternoon, winds will still be an issue and won’t completely subside until around midnight, the weather service states.

Winds in southern Connecticut will be 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph, and in northern Connecticut winds are expected to be 15 to 25 mph with occasional gusts up to 50 mph.

Overnight up to 5,000 Connecticut residents lost power and as of 8:30 a.m. Tuesday there are 2,187 Connecticut Light and Power customers currently without power.

Some of the towns with outages include: Killingworth, 237, Monroe, 220, Darien, 81, New Canaan, 67, Ridgefield, 56, and Stamford, 103.

At least it will be sunny today with temps near 50 degrees, and Wednesday is expected to be very nice.

However, showers are forecast for late Thursday and during the day on Friday, and then an arctic blast arrives and temps struggle to hit 40 degrees on Sunday and Monday.

Temps are forecast to be in the low 20s overnight on Sunday into Monday.
