After Twice Closing, Yale University Art Gallery Reopens Friday

The art gallery will once again be open to the public, albeit with free, timed-entry tickets to its permanent-collection galleries.

NEW HAVEN, CT —It's been more than a year since the coronavirus pandemic first forced the Yale University Art Gallery to close its doors. The gallery reopened briefly last fall but was soon again shuttered.

But Friday, the gallery will once again be open to the public, albeit with free, timed-entry tickets to its permanent-collection galleries.

"Welcome back," the gallery posted on its website.

Open to the public on Fridays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m., people must register for the free entry tickets here.

"We have worked with great care to welcome visitors back, following city, state, and Yale University guidelines," the website reads. "To ensure the health and safety of our staff and visitors, everyone ages two and older must wear a mask and practice physical distancing."

Visitors may view the permanent-collection galleries and installations on view that include African Art and Ancient Art, American Paintings and Sculpture, Asian Art, and European Art, American Decorative Arts (after 1900), American Paintings and Sculpture, and Modern and Contemporary Art and "Highlights from the Modern European Art Collection and Kline and Rothko: Six Works from the Lang Collection"
